Storm Jib

“Big winds, little sails”

A Horizon Sails Storm Jib is built to withstand the worst weather conditions. A storm sail is important equipment for your sailing boat or catamaran. Whether cruising or racing offshore, no boat should be without this essential sail for heavy weather at sea. Built to suit every sailboat and catamaran, the storm jib is an irreplaceable piece of your safety equipment. We offer several types of storm jib. There are a large choice of luff solutions, solid hanks, luff tape or over the top of a furled genoa …. so you can either drop your genoa and hoist the storm jib, set the storm jib on an inner forestay, or use our over furled headsails storm jib. The last type is the easiest sail to rig, thanks to its clever sleeve. This is likely the best solution for most sailors who day sail or make short passages. Our Genoa Storm Jib is a sail that simply hoists over the top of a furled headsail, so the furled headsail doesn’t need to be removed. It can be hoisted with the spinnaker halyard or a spare jib/genoa halyard. By using a Storm Sail in heavy weather, the centre of effort moves closer to the centre of the boat, generating less heeling and easier steering. A sleeve type storm jib for roller furled genoa eliminates accidental unfurling, or the need to drop and stow the genoa and provides additional benefits over a conventional hank-on or luff tape storm jib. Hoisting over the roller furled sail results in better aerodynamic sail shape than a conventional hanked-on storm jib on a removable headstay, or a partially furled genoa or jib. It also prevents the rolled genoa from unfurling. This sail is made with high quality orange dacron to comply with international offshore rules. The head, tack and clew are strongly reinforced and the panels are sewn using triple zig-zag stitching. Horizon Sails will build your storm jib to the highest quality using premium European sail cloth and hardware, at a highly competitive price. It is worth checking your marine insurance conditions, as many marine insurance companies do not cover damage caused by heavy winds if a storm jib isn't carried on board.
