In 1976, Gilles le Baud created his shipyard in Vannes (Morbihan), France. Gilles Le Baud is a great sailor with, to his credit, two victories in the solo Aurore race (which became the Figaro race in 1980). Until its closure in 2009, the Vannes shipyard built more than 4000 sailboats. Its history is eventful because the company will be bought several times, among others by the Marine Chaufour Poncin group, owner of the Kirié shipyards. Nevertheless, Kelt sailboats still remain a reference in terms of layout and quality of navigation. Qualities often rewarded: thus the Kelt 7.6 was voted boat of the year 1980 and sold nearly 250 units in the same year. Four years later, the Kelt 8.5 was voted boat of the year. To build sailboats that are always solid and well thought out, the yard has collaborated with the greatest French naval architects, and in particular Gilles Vaton, Jean Berret, Gilles Ollier and Philippe Briand. The industrial adventure lasted 35 years but Kelt's reputation in the sailing sector still remains and Kelt sailboats are highly sought after.
