Fountaine Pajot boatyard was set up in 1976 at La Rochelle, France. Today Fountaine Pajot is the world’s leading builder of sailing catamarans. Jean-François FOUNTAINE is a well known regatta competitor. Since 2006, Fountaine Pajot has been one of the world's leading catamaran builders, with approximately 400 employees located around La Rochelle. The shipyard initially produced light dinghies of the 470 and 505 type, before embarking on the production of windsurf boards and then that of cruising catamarans. The transition to the production of catamarans was made in 1983, before becoming industrialized in 2005 thanks to major investments. This enabled the Fountaine-Pajot company to upgrade its catamarans and sell 2,700 examples of 40 different models in the space of one year (2008). The Louisiane 37, 11 meter craft was designed with the collaboration of Michel Joubert et Bernard Nivelt. Built of PVC foam-core sandwich, with all the experience of this technology that Fountaine Pajot had gained by now, the Louisiane met with immediate success.
